The US National White Water Center, or USNWC, is one of the best ways to spend an active morning or afternoon in the Charlotte area.

The USNWC features the largest man-made white water course in the world & is where the US Olympic Kayak trials take place. White water rafting not your thing? The Center also features rock climbing, a nice restaurant/bar, over 14 miles of hiking/biking trails, and a few obstacle courses.

If you want to go spend some time at the USNWC, you can purchase an All Sports Pass for $54 ($44 for kids) which will allow you to take part in any of the activities at the center. Only care about white water rafting? You can purchase a few hours of just white water rafting separately.

A few tips to help you get the most out of your USNWC experience:

Reserve your spot if you’re going on a weekend, it fills up quick
Bring or wear a swimsuit
Wear closed toe shoes (need them to raft)
Don’t forget that sunscreen

The Knight Theatre in Uptown Charlotte

The Knight Theater at the Levine Center for the Arts in Uptown Charlotte is a relatively new addition to the Uptown Charlotte scene joining a cadre of popular museums & the theaters in the area. Located in the heart of the Uptown district on S. Tryon, the Knight Theater has hosted many popular Broadway shows. Next up? SPAMALOT from Feb. 17 – 19th.

The Knight Theater offers a student discount & regularly offers tickets in the $20 – $30 range (although you may be towards the back of the balcony at that price). Over Christmas, my family & I went to go see the Million Dollar Quartet, a show about a legendary jam session between Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Louis (before he made it big) & Johnny Cash. It was a great story/musical & we topped it off with some dessert in NODA after the show.
